‘Art has always been an immense part of my life,” says Tim Parris. “Nothing is more satisfying than making images from my mind and having people express their enjoyment for them.”
Parris, of West Windsor, has an exhibit of paintings at the Hopewell Library during the month of November. The opening reception is Saturday, November 8, from noon to 2 p.m. The exhibit is curated by Norma Jean “NJ” DeVico, an artist from Titusville and an artist model at the West Windsor Arts Center.
Parris is a lifetime resident of West Windsor. His father, David, is a paleontologist who curates at the New Jersey State Museum. His mother, Susan, is a computer programmer for the New Jersey Department of Human Services. His brother, Dan, works at Braun Research. His oldest brother, William, died in 2006. “He had autism and a percentage of profits from my art work will go towards autism research in his memory,” says Parris.
“Throughout high school I struggled with staying on track but thanks to a handful of teachers I was able to accomplish this task,” says Parris. “If it wasn’t for the constant nagging of me not living up to my full potential I would not be where I am today. For this, I would love to thank Mrs. Nicole Weber, Mrs. Jana Colpini, Ms. Laura Cobb, Mr. David Olson, and Mr. Robert Vogt. They deserve a lifetime achievement award for dealing with me as a student and I hope they’re reading this right now.”
After graduation from High School North in 2009, Parris took a few classes at Mercer County Community College. He has been working with Jacobus Pharmaceuticals since 2010. “I work in the manufacturing department where we make medications such as Paser, a delayed-release granule, to treat tuberculosis, and Dapsone, a treatment for leprosy,” he says.
He has previously exhibited in juried shows at the West Windsor Art Center, Ellarslie Museum, Artworks (currently in the Art of Darkness show), and he has work for sale at Framesmith Gallery on Route 1 in West Windsor.
“In the last few years, I have been given great advice as a new upcoming artist and hope to continue to use it to fulfill this dream of mine,” says Parris.
