Additional summer programs discovered by the News include the Go Green Adventure Camp based in Plainsboro, and Adidas Tennis Camp run by Ed Tseng, a 1991 graduate of West Windsor-Plainsboro High School.
Go Green Adventure Camp, is a one-week program focusing on educating and encouraging boys and girls, ages 6 to 11, to go green. Started by Alisha Kanitkar, Sanjana Saksena, Mansi Panse, and Rutvi Ravani, to earn their Girl Scout silver award, the camp returns for its fourth year. The girls, all students at High School North, are now 16 years old.
The campers explore different outdoor locations such as Morris Davison Park, the Plainsboro Preserve trails, and the Plainsboro Public Library. In the five days of each session, they run through activities that expand knowledge about current global problems and solutions.
Activities include using recycled paper to make new paper, making and hanging bird feeders, and learning about and making fossils. Other topics include learning about alternative energy, understanding the way animals survive in the wild, making crafts such as wind turbines, planting saplings at the library, and treasure hunting to learn about the planet. Campers give a presentation to parents on the final day.
Feedback from 34 campers in 2013 showed that their favorite activity was catching and observing pond organisms. This year’s program will run Monday to Friday, August 18 to 22, 9 a.m. to noon. There is adult supervision at all times. The cost is $75 per week. An open house and information session is Saturday, May 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., at 13 Briardale Court, Plainsboro. Visit goinggreencamp.weebly.com for information.
“We want to touch more campers who can then carry the message home to their families and make lasting changes that result in a greener planet,” say the girls.
Adidas Tennis Camp will take place at the Peddie School this summer. Tseng, a tennis pro who has been running camps in the area for close to 20 years, was named Pro of the Year for the USTA NJ district in 2005 and Princeton Packet’s coach of the year in 2013.
“What sets me apart is the life lessons and mental toughness training my students get,” says Tseng, author of “Game. Set. Life. Peak Performance for Sports and Life,” a book that has been on Amazon’s top 10 list and is featured annually at the US Open. Tseng is the head girls tennis coach at Princeton Day School and helped them become the Mercer County and Prep B Champions in 2012 and 2013.
Tseng graduated from Ferris State University with a degree in marketing and professional tennis management. He enjoys crossfit, yoga, reading, and spending time with his wife, Sarah; their daughter, Ava; and their Boston terriers, Babe and Jordan.
The tennis camps are in one-week sessions, each beginning on Sundays, July 6, 13, and 20. Day camp, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., is $625. Extended day, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. is $725. Overnight camp is $945. Visit www.tenniscamper.com for more information
“My goal is not just to develop great athletes, but to develop great people,” says Tseng.
