The Nature Center at Washington Crossing State Park is set to hold several events in May.
On May 4, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Pat Chichon will be leading a program called Wild Edible Plants for anyone aged 3 and above. Participants should bring a pair of plant clippers and a garden trowel. Advanced registration is required.
On May 11, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., there will be a hike on the Summit Trail at Baldpate Mountain for preteens and above. The group will meet at the parking lot by Neiderer’s Pond. Participants should bring a water bottle and wear hiking shoes. Advanced registration is required.
On May 17, from 1 to 4 p.m., there will be a canoe trip up the Delaware and Raritan Feeder Canal for anyone 9 year old and above. The group will meet at the Washington Crossing State Park parking lot. Advanced registration is required.
On May 18, starting at 1:30 p.m., Jim Wade, former archivist and researcher with the New Jersey State Museum will discuss primitive stone tool use by Native Americans in central New Jersey. The program will include a slide presentation and there will be Native American artifacts on display.
On May 24, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Gene Ramsey and other members of the Amateur Astronomer’s Association of Princeton will lead a program called Solar Observation. Participants will be able to view magnetic sun storms safely through special filters via a telescope, observe sun spots, solar flares, prominences and other solar phenomena. The program requires clear skies and the rain date is May 25 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The park vehicle entrance fee will be $4 a car.
On May 26, from 12 to 4 p.m., Jim Silk Flintknapper, reconstructive lithic technologist and researcher, will present a discussion and demonstration relating to Paleo stone tool making technologies. Advanced registration is required.
