The Washington Crossing Audubon Society is set to hold several free events for the public in May.
On May 3, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Brad Merritt and Charles Brine will lead a walk to observe songbird migrants at Garret Mountain Reservation, a Passaic County Park near Paterson.
On May 4, from 8 to 11 a.m., Mark Witmer will be leading a birding trip at Veteran’s Park in Hamilton which supports a diverse bird population. Possible sightings include wood ducks, tree and barn swallows, red-tailed hawks, cedar waxwings, orchard and Baltimore orioles, red-eyed vireos, scarlet tanagers, indigo buntings and more.
On May 17 and 18, there will be guided walks to observe the spring migration of warblers and other songbirds at the Princeton Institute Woods starting at 8 a.m.
On May 19 at 8 p.m., Sharyn Magee will give a presentation titled eBird: Where Birding Meets Science! at the monthly meeting of the Washington Crossing Audubon Society. Magee will discuss the real-time, online checklist program eBird which was developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society and used internationally. The program will be held in Stainton Hall on the campus of the Pennington School located at 112 West Delaware Avenue, Pennington.
On May 24, starting at 8 a.m., Sharyn Magee, Charles Brine and Brad Merrit will be leading a birding trip at the Negri-Nepote Grassland Preserve in Franklin Township.
On May 25, starting at 9 a.m., Pat Sziber and Franta Broulik will lead a birding trip at the Ted Stiles Preserve at Baldpate Mountain, a Mercer County Park.
On May 31, Sharyn Magee and Charles Brine will lead a birding trip to look for warblers at the Delaware Water Gap. The trip will form carpools at the Princeton Shopping Center and leave from there around 7 a.m.
