The Princeton Battlefield Society will celebrate the 238th anniversary of the Battle of Princeton on Jan. 3 with a real-time tour, sponsored by the New Jersey State Parks Service, Old Barracks Museum, and Princeton Battlefield Society. This event will end Patriots Week and kick off the Princeton Battlefield Society’s 2015 events.
This year’s event will feature a special living history demonstration with reenactors depicting Charles Willson Peale’s Company. According to Kip Cherry, first Vice President of the Princeton Battlefield Society, a surprise awaits participants.
British Army Historian William P. Tatum III, a reenactor and a former Society Trustee, will also trace the steps of American and British units at the same time of day as the original battle.
Jerry Hurwitz, President of the Princeton Battlefield Society, said the tour will explain how the Battle of Princeton, which took place on Jan. 3, 1777, was the first battle won against the professional British Army and was a crucial turning point in the American Revolution.
The tour will take place from from 7 to 9:30 a.m, starting at the Thomas Clarke House, Princeton Battlefield State Park, 500 Mercer Road, Princeton. There is no charge, but guests are invited to donate to the Society to support the restoration of the Thomas Clarke House. Attendees should wear warm clothes and stout shoes or boots.
