The Plainsboro Township Food Pantry sponsored a summer food drive with the help of many volunteers. The food drive was held during the months of June through August at the East Windsor Walmart, East Windsor ShopRite, and Lawrenceville ShopRite.

Plainsboro Girl Scout Troop 71110, led by Deborah Vivona, assisted in the collection and delivery of the food. Scouts and their family members who helped on the project included Diane Yoon, Young Yoon, Isabella Pacheco, Kimberly Pacheco, Rosina Ananth, Raveena Ananth, Ananth Devadoss, Rampriya Perumal, Sara Furtak, Caroline Furtak, Amy Torres, Tannia Jaramillo, Maddalena Vivona, Anthony Vivona, Sophia Vivona, Nitya Narayanan, Isabella Capuano, and Rebecca Capuano.

High school volunteers included Matthew Lu and Sharath Yalla. Adult volunteers included Suzzane D’Amico Sharp and Linda Jin.

“Food drives at local supermarkets are especially helpful to the pantry since shoppers donate from a specific list of items that they are given,” writes Teresa Carson, executive secretary of the Township of Plainsboro. “These are the items the pantry is in need of at that time.”

The donations received replenished the shelves of the pantry. The pantry receives the bulk of food donations from the Ten Months/Ten Schools program, which operates throughout the school year. Each month a specific school donates to the food pantry through its own food drive. During the summer months donations generally run extremely low.

Food donations may be dropped off at the Plainsboro Municipal Building or the Recreation and Cultural Center located at 641 Plainsboro Road. To volunteer your time, contact Ria Benerofe, the food pantry coordinator, at 609-799-0909, ext. 1712.

Lindsay and Bryan Driver of West Windsor founded Animal Lover Funding to help families and individuals pay for veterinary expenses when a family pet becomes ill.

The choice to treat or not treat a pet due to expenses is very difficult. “It puts families in a tough situation where the choice between euthanizing a family pet or succumbing to debt becomes a life or death decision,” they write in a press release. The organization was created to help families, rescues, and beloved pets get the care they deserve.

The Drivers have spent thousands of dollars on medical care for their two dogs in the past few years. “We’d rack up that debt again in a heartbeat,” said Lindsay.” They’re our family and we take care of each other.”

A new memorial was dedicated in Plainsboro on September 11. Evelyn Pryor, raised in Plainsboro, donated funds to the memorial in memory of her son, Jeffrey D. Pryor, who died in 2011. His great grandfather, Jacob Hults, was a founding father of the Township of Plainsboro.

Pryor, born in Princeton, was a longtime Plainsboro resident and a fireman with Plainsboro Volunteer Fire Company for more than 34 years. He worked with Plainsboro’s Department of Public Works for more than 25 years. Funeral services were held at the Plainsboro Fire Company.

Pryor was one of the Plainsboro firefighters helping first responders when the towers fell in 2001. He died from an aneurysm when he was 50.

The monument features an 80 pound piece of steel from the World Trade Center. It was unveiled by Mayor Peter Cantu. The audience was asked to recognize the effort of first responders by Deputy Mayor Neil Lewis.
