The Ewing Arts Commission has created a new venue for musicians and comedians from Mercer and Bucks counties to showcase their crafts.
Open Mic Night is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. the second Thursday of every month, beginning Nov. 14, at the Ewing Community Center, 999 Lower Ferry Road, Ewing.
Ewing Arts Commission president Bill Ullrich and local performer Greg Rapport planned the monthly event as an incubator for talented individuals who need an audience to practice their craft but cannot travel the distance to the traditional open mics in cities like Philadelphia and New York.
“Musicians and comedians need a safe place to work on their acts and progress as entertainers,” Ullrich said in a statement. “Our goal is to create a community of local talent who will get to know each other, help each other and ultimately propel each other into larger venues.”
Performers are required to bring at least five audience members, who must stay for the entire show.
Shows are scheduled for Nov. 14 and Dec. 12 in 2013; and Jan. 9, Feb. 13, March 13, April 10, May 8, June 12, July 10, Aug, 14, Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11 in 2014.
Performances are free and open to the public. Audience members must be at least 18 years old.
