In every edition of the Ewing Observer, Mayor Bert Steinmann answers readers’ questions. It was a slow month for reader submission, so the staff of the Observer came up with two questions to pose to the mayor.
Does Ewing have a curbside leaf collection program? If so, what does the pickup include, and what are the procedures for pickup?
We do have a curbside leaf collection program. Any leaves left on the street next to the curb will be picked up during the months of November and December.
Our schedule has the town divided into four sections. We will pick up each area two times. We try to wait until most of the leaves have fallen to start.
We also pick up bagged leaves that are in recycled bags, once a week, the day after your trash collection. Example: if your trash is picked up on Monday, the bagged leaves are picked up on Tuesday.
Please remember to use the recycled bags. Residents may also drop off leaves at our location on Jack Stephan Way, which is open six days a week (Monday to Saturday).
The township shares detailed information about the leaf pickup schedule online (ewingnj.org) and in an advertisement on page 19 of this issue of the Ewing Observer.
The town also has curbside pickup during March and April for those who clean out their gardens and prepare their lawns for the spring.
From time to time, people go door to door through town either selling products or seeking donations for charity. Does Ewing have regulations regarding solicitors? What should people do if someone comes to their door and is not in compliance with the township’s regulations?
We do have regulations regarding solicitors. The township adopted an ordinance in November of 1998. The ordinance number is Chapter 267 Ordinance number 98-13.
We last reviewed this ordinance in June 2012. The ordinance covers the application, the license required, what happens if denied, appeal rights, fees, exemptions, Veterans and volunteer firefighters, nonprofit organization request and political organization requests.
All solicitation requests should start in the municipal clerk’s office at town hall.
If you have someone at your door and they are not in compliance, you should call the police and ask them to investigate. You can also call the clerk’s office or the administration to report the solicitation and we will send out the police to check as well.
