Runners in Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart Poetry in Motion 5K Run/Walk are set to wear blue and yellow ribbons to honor Boston Marathon Bombing victims
Head of School, Dr. Patty Fagin, said in a statement “wearing blue and yellow ribbons is our way of showing the Stuart community’s support for the City of Boston and the surrounding towns.”
The 5K is scheduled for 8 a.m. May 11 at the school, 1200 Stuart Road, Princeton.
It is an official race from USA Track and Field, the national organization governing track and field, running and race walking.
The course is set to begin at the main entrance driveway to Stuart. Runners will travel east on Stuart Road, turning left on Bouvant Drive. At the end of Bouvant Drive they turn around and will be directed to the finish line in the Stuart Upper Parking Lot.
These is also a Children’s Race planned for children under 10 years old. Childcare for for children ages three and older is set to be provided.
Pre-registration for all events, including childcare, is online at stuartschool.org/5KRun or at Stuart starting at 7:30 a.m. on the day of the race.
This is the sixth year of the Poetry in Motion 5K, established in 2008 in memory of former English department chair and Stuart graduate Victoria Flournoy McCarthy.
Proceeds are set to benefit Stuart’s Lies, Light, McCarthy Visiting Author Program that brings prominent writers to spend the day on campus Stuart students. Visiting Authors have included Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon, best-selling novelist Jonathan Safran Foer, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jhumpa Lahiri, award-winning poet Naomi Shihab Nye and Edwidge Danticat .
