There aren’t many places where folks can publicly sing along with a movie without annoying everyone in the theater. Kelsey Theater in West Windsor offers you just such a chance — to sing along with “Mary Poppins,” the 1964 Disney classic film with Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, a film known for its animation, special effects, dancing, and award-winning music. Theater to Go presents the movie musical sing-along screening on Friday and Saturday, August 2 and 3.
Audience members will receive a participation pack with items to be used throughout the movie, such as kazoos, bubbles, noisemakers, skittles, and more. The crowd participates to varying degrees, with some in full costume and others just along for the ride.
The production company, known for audience participation events, invites everyone to sing along during the movie — with all the words to the songs on the screen. Other audience participation activities include interactive games, a trivia contest, and a costume contest — so come dressed as your favorite character. There will also be prizes.
Transport yourself to Victorian England and follow the lead of Elizabeth Rzasa as Mary Poppins and Casey Woods as Bert, who will guide the activities and introduce the film and, of course, sing along with everyone. Sweets by Aunt Selma’s Chocolate and Candy Company will be available in the lobby to help people get their “Spoonful of Sugar”
This is the third movie musical sing-along offered by T2G at Kelsey Theater. Last August the theater was filled with Munchkins, Dorothys with their Totos, and witches — both good and bad, as the audience sang along with “The Wizard of Oz.” That screening was followed by a trip back to Rydell High in January as everyone donned poodle skirts and slicked- back hair for “Grease.” Get ready to become orphans in depression-era New York City for the screening of “Annie” in December.
Meanwhile you can sing along with “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “Step in Time,” and “Jolly Holiday.” No spelling required.
