Members of Boy Scout Troop 28 of Lawrence embarked on a weekend canoeing and camping trip in the Pine Barrens July 19.
Ten scouts and four adults navigated the waterway of the Mullica River near the Astion Recreational Area in Shamong Township. The boys rowed their way around several obstacles in the river caused by rain and several storms before the trip.
Troop 28 members took five hours to get to the campsite, where they pitched tents for the weekend.
During the weekend, scouts explored the waterway, saw, played games and prepared meals for each other.
They also witnesses a thunder and lightning storm on Saturday night. Troop members estimated 2.5 inches of rain fell.
Scouts traveled back up the river on Sunday, the trip took about three hours. They loaded their canoes and headed back to Lawrence having survived a weekend in the Pine Barrens.
Troop 28 is open to boys who have completed fifth grade. Their meetings are scheduled for 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday nights at the Troop Hut at Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church.
