Old world traditions run headlong into changing values and political turmoil in Czarist Russia when Playful Theater Productions presents “Fiddler on the Roof” at Kelsey Theater from Friday, February 26, to Sunday, March 7. A reception with the cast and crew follows the opening night performance on February 26.
Set in 1905, the drama is set against the backdrop of world events, with the ruling Russian government’s anti-Semitism threatening to drive people from their homes. The show opened on Broadway in 1964 and received nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Musical Score. With songs including “Tradition,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” “Matchmaker,” and “To Life,” it is one of the most popular stage musicals for both professional and community companies to perform.
Plainsboro actors include Dan Slothower as the Constable, and Heather Santos of Plainsboro in the ensemble. Former Plainsboro resident Marc Flicker portrays Nachum the Beggar. West Windsor residents in the cast include Jeb Barkenbush, Mia Barkenbush, Glen Bortolus, and Alana Greener.
