Yet again, a pair of twins led a WW-P school to a cross country championship, but this time, the twins were not the Rosas.
Even though North’s Jim Rosa claimed the individual Mercer County Tournament boys’ cross country title, South swept the boys’ and girls’ team competitions, placing first in each.
For the boys, South claimed its first team title since 2004, led by Jake and Dan Riff, Dan Sheldon, and Brian Schoepfer. Jake Riff placed second behind Rosa, followed by Dan Riff, Sheldon, and Schoepfer, who placed fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.
As expected, Rosa finished first with a time of 15:41.95, but North was without his twin brother, Joe, who is out for the season with a foot injury. The twins, nationally known for their cross country achievements, announced they will attend Stanford next year.
Caroline Kellner, who placed first with a time of 17:56, helped lead the South girls to their second Mercer County title in three years. Behind her were Ingrid Simon, 7th, May Chang, 11th, Nicole Crossey, 13th, and Xinran Pan, 31st.
