A dual debut is scheduled at Plainsboro Public Library this month. A retrospective benefit show featuring new works by artists who have held shows over the past 18 years has opened in the main gallery. The library’s first virtual show curated by Plainsboro resident Donna Senopoulos will radiate from the tower room. A reception and the conclusion of the silent auction will be held on Tuesday, December 28, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
A rich array of styles and media are represented including abstract collages, delicate paper bowls, classic Chinese calligraphy, unique photography, and paintings. The roster of donors includes Liz Adams, Piedad Bernikow, Iris Chang, Ilene Dube, Lionel and Ruth Goodman, Robert Hummel, Bob Justin, Ken Kaplowitz, Susan Kubota, Alison Kwok, Jack Liang, Judy Lass-Tobie, Arlene Milgram, Leon Milmeyster, Luba Model, Maria Pisano, Ruth Reese, Steven Richman, Donna Senopoulos, Michael Shiue, and Jessica Stearns. The benefit sale supports the arts programs at the library.
Visitors are invited to visit the gallery exhibit and bid on their favorite works. Bids close at the reception and winning bids will be announced. Winning bidders do not have to be present on that evening.
“Topping off the evening, will be the debut of the library’s Virtual Gallery,” says Jinny Baeckler, director of the library. “As part of the architectural design of the new library, a special projection system was installed in the third floor Tower Room that enables artwork to be reflected off a slanted ceiling, and projected outside to the Village Square.”
Area artists and residents have been creating self portraits for the inaugural show entitled “The Faces of Plainsboro.” The creation of participative, community art has always been a priority for the library and its Annual Arts Festival emphasizes hands-on creation. With the new virtual gallery, the library envisions expanded possibilities for the general public to contribute to the artistic life of the community.
Jeff Nathanson, executive director of the Princeton Arts Council of Princeton and a West Windsor resident, is the show’s juror. He will present awards at the event.
