Both South’s girls swim team and the South diving team took first place in their respective county tournaments over the last two weeks.##M:[more]##
For the eighth year in a row, the South girls’ swimming team took first place at the Mercer County Tournament, with 7 of the 11 gold medals going to the team, and with star sophomore swimmer Rebecca Lewinson again being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Lewinson won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:33.06; the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:14.25; and swam on two South relay teams that also took first place.
Lewinson was joined by Julia Tomei, Brynja Winnan, and Jenna Ketchmark on the 200 IM Medley, for a time of 2:04.48. Ketchmark and Lewinson also swam with Meredith Ketchmark and Paola Simon on the 200 Free Relay first place team.
Winnan took first in the 100-meter backstroke, with a time of 1:06.76 and second in the 50 free with a time of 27.87, and Simon took first in the 200 free with a time of 2:09.66. The relay team with Winnana, Meredith Ketchmark, Simon and Amanda Grant also took gold in the 400 free realy, with a time of 4:08.44. Gabrielle Giambagno, Rachel Sartor, Annie Bonazzi, Elizabeth Wembacher, and Kim Chiu also won medals during the event.
The High School South diving team took first place in the Mercer County Diving Championships on January 30, beating Notre Dame. Mallory Swanson, with her second place finish for the girls, Alexandra Olgin, with a score of 163.45, Danielle Erickson, with a score of 153.55, and Michael Cassrona, with a score of 190.1, helped lead the Pirates.
Kieran Jones, North boys’ diver, took first place in the boys’ championships with a score of 208.9.
