If all eyes are on the WW-P High School South football team this week (as it prepares to play Notre Dame this Friday, October 19, in a game that could determine the CVC Colonial division championship), that would be a big mistake. That’s because some equally compelling stories are developing with other teams at both high schools.##M:[more]##

At North, the boys’ cross country team — paced by freshman Joe Rosa, with a supporting cast that includes his twin brother, Jim — finds itself sporting an undefeated record. And that perfect record came after a face-off earlier this week against previously undefeated High School South, which joined the Knights in a five-way meet at Mercer County Park.

North prevailed, 19-38, with Rosa, John LiPuma, and Jon Squeri finishing 1, 2, and 3. The showdown was mitigated by South coach Kurt Wayton holding his top two runners, including senior Brian Leung, in anticipation of the Mercer County Championship next Friday, October 26.

The North field hockey team, meanwhile, was traveling to Lawrence as the News went to press on October 18 for a game that would give the Knights their second straight CVC Valley division championship. A win or a tie would give North the title; a loss would result in a tie with Lawrence.

The Knights ran their record to 10-3 with a 2-0 defeat of Notre Dame. Meghan Hunter and Jen Lennon scored the goals.

South’s tennis team, in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year, got clutch performances from its doubles players to propel itself to a 13-1 record.
