I received a postcard in the mail yesterday from the Borek, Diehl, Samonte team. There were a number of things on this small postcard that I found concerning that I want to point out. The front of the postcard has a picture that is clearly similar to the one used by Mr. Goldin and InterCap in his ads where he thanks the members of council who voted in favor of settling the transit village litigation.
So I immediately looked for the required “paid for by” text on the card but it was nowhere to be found. Besides this being a violation of NJSA Campaign Contributions and Expenditures Reporting Act, it is misleading. Was this mailing paid for by the candidates committee? Was it paid for by Mr. Goldin? Or was it paid for by someone else? Possibly the Mayor?
On the back of the postcard are two glowing endorsements. One from Mayor Hsueh, and one from Council President Kamal Khanna. Is this not a non-partisan government? The current Mayor and Council President are openly endorsing three candidates for the council? Will the council members vote against the Mayor if they are elected? Will this endorsement affect how they serve? And once again, who paid for distributing this endorsement?
This is exactly why we need an unaffiliated, independent member on the council. If these three candidates win, clearly they will not be completely unbiased when providing the checks and balances they are meant to provide. In addition, do you think this council will ever accept a request to investigate the Mayor or administration after this glowing endorsement?
Put an end to these games and write in my name, Greg Harris, by pressing button 10 on the ballot when voting November 8. And if you are not planning to vote, you should. Don’t let a small group of people decide for you, or this stuff will never end.
Greg Harris
Write-in candidate for Council
