An 18-year-old driver from West Windsor faces multiple charges following a fatal motor vehicle collision in the township in August.
Rehan Jahangir, a student at High School North, has been charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter and second- and third-degree vehicular homicide, said West Windsor Police Chief Robert Garofalo and Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Theresa L. Hilton.
Jahangir was served with complaints on Sept. 16 at a rehabilitation facility in New Brunswick.
The crash took place in the early morning hours of Aug. 20 on Lanwin Boulevard near Providence Drive. Authorities said that Jahangir drove a 2024 Tesla Model Y off the road and struck a tree, causing significant intrusion into the passenger side of the vehicle.
The officers initially responding to the scene performed first aid on Jahangir and his passenger, Daniel Haas, 18, of Princeton Junction, until they were extricated from the vehicle.
Police said that Jahangir and Haas both suffered life-threatening injuries and were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Haas died on Aug. 24 as a result of his injuries.
Authorities said that an investigation conducted by West Windsor Police and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office’s Serious Collision Response Team found that Jahangir was driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.125%.
He was reportedly traveling at 78 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone at the time of the crash. Authorities also said that Jahangir had a N.J. driver’s license with an altered date of birth for which he was charged with possession of a false government document.
