West Windsor police are investigating a recent residential burglary and vehicle theft on Village Road West.
Police said a 911 call was received at about 5:15 a.m. Jan. 24 from a resident who reported that someone broke into the home through a window, stole keys and other property, and fled in one of the residents’ vehicles. The residents were home at the time.
Patrol officers and detectives from the investigations unit responded and processed the scene.
Detectives later tracked the stolen vehicle to the Newark area. The vehicle was recovered a short time later in Harrison. The investigation remains active.
Police also warned residents that multiple residential burglaries have occurred in recent weeks in different areas of West Windsor.
One individual has been arrested and charged in connection with those incidents. Police believe two additional unrelated crews are responsible for other burglaries and said leads are actively being investigated.
The West Windsor Police Department urged residents to remain vigilant and secure their homes, including locking doors, securing first-floor windows, activating alarms and using surveillance cameras when available.
Police said the department has taken proactive steps to improve detection and tracking of suspects, including installing license plate readers and cameras throughout the township.
Residents are encouraged to contact the police dispatch center if they observe suspicious activity. Police said patrols have been increased as the investigation continues.
