A couple of years ago, George was West Windsor Council president. Along with other members of Council, George insisted we on the Grover Homestead Restoration Committee have a report and plan — in writing — for our efforts to save the Grover Homestead, portions built in 1840 or before. A 92-page report compiled by John Church and others, was delivered in print and made available on CD.
Two days prior to the Monday Council meeting, I communicated via E-mail with Borek. He assured me he had no further questions and that he was leaving with his family to go pick blueberries in another township. No problems, he said.
I suggested that if he voted to save the Grover House, he and his family could ride bicycles to the Grover Farm and pick blueberries right here in West Windsor!
Leading up to the final vote following a 3.5-month police investigation for damages and thefts from the Grover House, Borek had said the proposal looked good. (Did he even read the report?)
However, when the official Council vote was taken, Borek voted against allowing $45,000 to save the house and joined the mayor’s wish to spend $45,000 to raze the 170-year-old house! And this, my friends, says all you need to know about this person’s character.
Voters elected a professional firefighter whose oath it is to serve and protect people and properties — in Jersey City. Obviously this does not apply in West Windsor.
Instead, Borek rolled over and destroyed the Grover Homestead legacy, which belonged to the West Windsor taxpayers. He had a fiduciary responsibility to protect taxpayer assets!
He did not allow Habitat for Humanity or the Wounded Warriors Project contribute to saving the Grover House. This was the boyhood home of a true American Hero. But the mayor and Borat don’t care about American history.
P.S.: Ask the mayor why the Grover House was destroyed by the West Windsor Historical Society and other members of his administration. Why was not one penny recovered for taxpayers from the destruction of a $500,000 Grover Homestead asset?
