Area law enforcement and public safety personnel were deployed in full force on July 2 to investigate a report of a suspicious package that was left outside an office in Carnegie Center. The contents of the box were eventually deemed to be nonhazardous.
West Windsor Police Lt. Mark Lee said that officers were dispatched to the offices of Bioclinica, a CRO located at 211 Carnegie Center, to investigate a report of a female acting suspiciously in the area.
“The female left behind a suspicious package and placed a sweater over top on the main walkway in front of the building,” Lt. Lee said. “She continued to partially disrobe in clear view of the main window and began walking away toward the 500 buildings of Carnegie Center.”
Lt. Lee said that when officers arrived, the woman hid behind a U.S. mailbox along the roadway and then continued to attempt to evade police.
“When she was spotted by Officer Carlos Abade, she continued her attempt to hide by ducking into the Princeton Post Office located at 213 Carnegie Center,” Lt. Lee said.
The woman was apprehended and police determined that the 61-year-old was suffering from mental health issues. The woman, a resident of New Haven, Connecticut, was transported to Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center for evaluation.
K9 Officer Douglas Montgomery and K9 Mackey and an off-duty K9 officer and his dog from the N.J. State Police responded to the scene to conduct an explosives check.
After the package was cleared, members of the West Windsor Division of Fire and Emergency Services conducted a hazardous materials check of the package and its contents. All checks were clear and the scene returned to normal operations by 12:30 p.m.
