The West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance invites all area residents to take part in a Ride of Silence on Wednesday, May 16 (rain date May 23). This is a somber one-hour ride to honor bicyclists who have been killed or injured on the road as well as to raise awareness of cyclists on the road and to remind motorists that we are fragile.
It takes place annually during National Bike to Work Week. Last year, more than 12,000 cyclists around the world participated in a Ride of Silence.
The 10-mile West Windsor ride will leave from the Municipal Center at 7 p.m. sharp and include a police escort and a funeral hearse courtesy of Mather Hodge. Cyclists are encouraged to wear black arm bands and turn on their front and rear lights. Please bring a bike in good riding condition and helmet, plus a water bottle, spare inner tube, ID, cell phone, and any other necessities. Think about how to make yourself visible to motorists!
The maximum ride speed will be 12 mph, and we will stay together as a group. Remember, cyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as motorists on the road. Let’s share the road and be considerate of each other.
Other area Rides of Silence are being held in Skillman and Princeton. There is no cost for any of these rides.
