I am responding to a letter from the November 7 issue, and I concur with the writer — the driver is not always wrong. However, I would also like to bring to the attention of all folks, and particularly the Plainsboro authorities on the issue of pedestrian rights trying to cross Plainsboro Road.
I have seen several instances when drivers (who are primarily non-Plainsboro residents), speed up when they see a pedestrian approaching the marked crossing areas. I am a Plainsboro resident, and I absolutely enjoy taking walks in our rather lovely community.
However, on multiple occasions when I try to cross Plainsboro Road at the pedestrian crossing near Scotts Corner Road, I experience speed demons. More often than not these cars are heading out of the Plainsboro area toward Cranbury, leading me to believe these are non-Plainsboro residents using our roads as a pass through. Recently I was well in the middle of the road attempting to cross over and was accosted by a speeding driver who was verbally abusive.
I would like the Plainsboro authorities to look at this issue — a lower speed limit for this road will be advisable. I would also recommend flashing warning lights on the clearly marked pedestrian crossing signs.
