It was not too long ago that the “old Acme shopping center” was suffering from a lack of an anchor grocery store. Then in the spring of 2014 it seemed like a stroke of luck for our town when the Mrs. Green’s organization decided to open one of its upscale stores in West Windsor. It is a beautiful retail space with attractive produce, meat, deli, and bakery areas as well as offering a small cafe to enjoy coffee and purchased foods.
Hopefully all West Windsor residents could try to visit Mrs. Green’s at least once a week so that it flourishes in our town while providing a healthy alternative for surrounding communities. Now that the colder weather is upon us it will be even more advantageous to have a really local grocery store for last-minute food items.
One easy way I have been trying to support Mrs. Green’s is to purchase a rotisserie chicken (organic: $12.99; non-organic: $8.99) once a week from the prepared food section. I have even been told that the store will reserve a chicken for an actual arrival time if you call ahead (609-373-6030). Reserving a chicken may come in very handy because I have on several Fridays intended to purchase a chicken at a different West Windsor grocery store and discovered that there were none available.
We all know that the competition is stiff with West Windsor home to many quality grocery stores. However, West Windsor residents, especially those in neighborhoods closest to Mrs. Green’s, take a close look at products they could purchase from Mrs. Green’s on a regular basis, then it will be a win-win situation. Mrs. Green’s would prosper and West Windsor would continue to have a thriving town center.
