This is in response to Melissa Moreau’s letter in the July 25 issue of the WWP News. I strongly disagree with her opinion that there is insufficient “housing, retail and commercial opportunities in the area” and a need for “more retail space for boutique shops.”
There are many commercial ratables on Route 1 north and south, including the Nassau Park Shopping Center, Nassau Park Pavillion, the Windsor Green Shopping Center, MarketFair, the Square at West Windsor. As far as housing, I think we can all agree that West Windsor has enough. The Howard Hughes project will bring nothing but problems to our community. Not the least of which will be the construction traffic over the years. If you think it is difficult now to utilize Clarksville Road during rush hour, wait until construction commences.
The area will be a perpetual bottleneck. The solution will be to improve and widen the road, which will just bring more traffic and unwanted traffic signals. In the end, you will have another community like Mt. Laurel or Evesham. Residential developments are a drain and strain on services and school systems. The highest and best use for the Howard Hughes tract would be agricultural, research and development or light industrial. Better yet, leave it as it is.
