We are girl scout from Troop 70037 and have been working to complete our Girl Scouts Silver Award Project at the Merwick Rehabilitation Center in Plainsboro.
Our project at Merwick was to complete a simple art piece with each of the residents. The residents created a diverse and eye catching work of art by placing pieces of tape on a canvas and painting each individual shape with different vibrant colors.
Each day our group brought residents to our work space to create their project. Some residents created multiple pieces to make up for other residents who were unable to participate.
Our group came across many different places to hold our silver award project, but in the end we knew that Merwick was a great place to work with. Although Merwick already had many different pieces of art around the building, we didn’t find any projects that were made solely by the residents.
After noticing this, our group knew that creating a project at Merwick involving all of the residents who live there would make a huge difference, and in the end, it really did.
The project resulted in a huge, colorful, and unique art project created by all of the residents at Merwick. From all of the different colors to all the numerous shapes, the residents put in the effort to make this beautiful project come to life.
We worked with many types of residents who had various levels of experience, and in the end we learned to be patient and supportive of their art work. We enjoyed working with a group that we don’t normally interact with and found these art sessions enjoyable and interesting.
Our group has enjoyed every minute of working with the residents to help achieve this amazing project. Our experience here has helped us learn so much and it was great to work with all of the residents and staff here at Merwick.
To present this project to everyone, we held an unveiling ceremony on July 11 with all of the residents and staff. We are happy to say that all of the hard work payed off to create one incredible piece.
