This year, in both national and local politics, it seems more than ever incumbent upon us to use our voices and speak up in the face of personal political attacks and bold assertions that have no basis in fact or reality.
I have never written a letter to the editor of any sort, but after reading the submission by Dario Gonzalez in the “Community Forum” section of the October 4, 2016 edition of the West Windsor & Plainsboro News, I am compelled to use my voice and speak up.
While writing of his disapproval of Richard Kaye as a candidate for the school board election, Mr. Gonzalez took this opportunity to personally attack council member Ayesha Hamilton, and even her husband.
In his letter, Mr. Gonzalez purports to represent what he says “All West Windsor residents know…” about Hamilton. As a West Windsor resident, here is what I know about Ayesha Hamilton.
Ms. Hamilton moved to this community a few years ago and very quickly immersed herself and her family in our town with a sincere desire to make this her home and to make a contribution. Taking on the position as council member, a position she campaigned tirelessly for and to which she was legitimately elected, in the less than one year since she has been in office, she has done an incredible job of trying to bring transparency into the process and keeping the constituents informed through her council briefing publications.
She attends community functions and events around town and does not miss a single opportunity to promote and support the community, its businesses and our local police department.
What I know to be true of Hamilton is that her only “agenda” is to work hard, do a good job for the community and to approach her duties as a council member with fairness, rationality and reasonableness.
She seeks out the facts and considers all sides before making a decision on an issue. She is a working mother and a West Windsor small business owner. She is intelligent and represents our community very well.
Above all, she has sacrificed time with her family and her own business to be a part of the discourse, serve on council and to try to make a difference in her community.
