Weir & Associates, LLC in Pennington, founded eight years ago by Senior Partner W. John Weir II, is on a mission to provide expert legal representation for civil litigation cases tried before juries.

Weir spent 10 years as a painting contractor before following his dream to become a lawyer. After graduating with honors from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden, he began his legal career at McLaughlin & Cooper P.C. in Trenton.
“I always wanted to be a trial attorney,” Weir said. “I was trying cases my first year. I especially enjoyed civil litigation.”
He has now practiced law for 20 years. Weir has handled a wide variety of civil matters, and tried numerous jury trials in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Mercer County, Middlesex County, Camden County, Somerset County, Monmouth County and Hunterdon County as well as Federal Court. He also serves as an arbitrator in the Mercer County Law Division, and has served as a mediator and arbitrator in numerous matters on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants.
When he was starting his own firm, he said he chose to open an office in Pennington because of the great area and its convenient, central location to best serve his clients.
Weir is joined at Weir & Associates by partner C. Robert Luthman, who has obtained successful jury and nonjury verdicts throughout New Jersey advocating for his clients in both defending and prosecuting personal injury claims. Luthman also specializes in automobile litigation, environmental law, construction litigation and municipal matters.
The law practice has grown even more with the addition of two associates.
Jonathan Lauri specializes in the representation of injured victims, with an emphasis on automobile, premise liability, slip and fall accidents and insurance and consumer law.
Jeffrey Dunn, a longtime resident of Lawrenceville, focuses on civil litigation, insurance defense, business disputes and commercial law.
“We have gone from two to four attorneys in the last couple of years, and I look forward to our continued growth,” Weir said.
Weir believes in offering a great value for the firm’s clients. “We are very experienced in jury trials and know what has to be done,” he said. “We deliver results and use our experience to help resolve cases in a timely manner.”
The firm also offers mediation and arbitration services that can reduce the cost of litigated matters.
“The way in which cases are resolved is changing tremendously,” said Weir. “The legal field has grown more specialized over the years. The days of the general practitioner are largely gone. You have to specialize to best serve clients, and that is why we focus on civil litigation. We build on our experience to best serve our clients.”
When asked what he enjoys most about working in this field, Weir said, “Aside from helping clients, I love the opportunity to interact with people on the jury. Lawyers view cases differently than jurors, and it’s always refreshing to see the opinion of jurors.”
