When Tina Nguyen and her daughter, Laura, opened Doll Beautique Nails on Parkway Avenue in June, it was the fulfillment of a dream.

“My mom worked in nail salons around the area, when the owner of this complex, one of her former clients, asked her if she wanted to open her own business,” Laura Nguyen said, adding that her mother had been a manicurist and pedicurist for 17 years.

They signed a deal to set up shop in the location of a former nail salon, and went about replacing the polishes, chairs, tables, and adding massage chairs.

“We love it!” Nguyen said about their new nail salon. “Everything is new. It is clean, friendly and very relaxing. We talk to our customers. We build relationships with our clients. We make them feel welcome.”

“We use the best polishes that are guaranteed to last,” she said. “They are high end products.”

To encourage customers to visit them in the beginning of the week, Doll Beautique runs weekly specials on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays on manicures, pedicures and spa gels. No coupons are required. Each service is between $2 and $5 less expensive than later in the week.

Doll Beautique also offers some specialty services. Their Jelly Pedicures are a spa treatment for the feet.

“It is aromatherapy,” Nguyen said. “You soak your feet in hot jelly with aloe. It is very relaxing. It really helps with aches and pains in feet, especially in colder weather.”

According to the Jelly Pedi website, it is “taking all the advantages of Spa and combining it with the fun and playful aspect of playing with jelly — turning ordinary water into translucent fluff jelly.” It is used as a pre-soak for pedicures.

They also offer eyelash extensions. For $25, Nguyen’s aunt, Kimberly Nguyen, will give you longer lashes that last up to two weeks. Eyelash extensions enhance the length, thickness, and fullness of people’s eyelashes.

Doll Beautique is a family run and family-oriented business. They both take appointments and welcome walk-in customers.

“Business is picking up since we opened in June. It is just how we want it to grow,” Nguyen said. “The word of mouth is getting out that my mother has opened her own salon. We want to see where the business takes us.”

They are open six days a week, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. During the spring and summer, when more people are interested in pedicures, they add Sunday hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
