Many salons focus on one type of hair, catering to one ethnicity in particular. However, the owners of Great Looks 4 Less have tried to cater to every client available.

“We’re a multicultural salon,” co-owner Chase Taylor said.

Taylor said the stylists at Great Looks 4 Less are trained for all textures of hair. His wife and business partner, Denise, said the stylists keep up with the latest styles by participating in hands-on training and classes.

The salon opened in November, but Chase said the business is growing already.

“We’re doing very well and we’re so bent on serving our customers that we’re really looking for people to hire,” he said.

Denise has worked in the salon industry for 20 years, and she said Great Looks 4 Less pays special attention to cleanliness compared to the other salons where she worked. Every brush used at the salon is cleaned, disinfected and repackaged after each use.

The same goes for other tools, robes and smocks.

“I just feel that the customer deserves that,” Denise said, and said that if customers except that level of cleanliness from their doctors, they should expect it from their stylists.

Denise said her favorite part of the job was dealing with customers — making them look good and feel good about themselves. She also enjoys using the business to give back to the community.

Last month Great Looks 4 Less donated about $500 to the American Red Cross as part of its Hair Cuts for Haiti partnership with Gold’s Gym. Stylists went to Gold’s Gym to give free hair cuts to anyone who made a donation to the American Red Cross.

Denise and Chase support many organizations through the salon, including the Lawrence Hamnett Soccer Association, Homefront and Womanspace. Great Looks 4 Less is also a member of both the Princeton and Mercer chambers of commerce.

“We just want to be involved in the community,” Chase said.

And Denise pointed out that all the people in the organizations they support are also potential clients. She added that the salon had gained several clients just from working with the chambers.

Denise also said the salon was available for events or parties. Chase said they tried to give the salon a relaxed and quiet atmosphere.

Customers get a sense of privacy, since each chair is sectioned off. Soft music is constantly playing, and every guest is welcomed with an offer of coffee.

“It makes you feel like you’re in your own private lounge,” Chase said.

Through their pricing, Chase said, they try to separate themselves from both high-end salons and low-end franchises. While Great Looks 4 Less is more affordable than salons in Princeton or New York, Chase said, the salon does better work than ultra-low-price salons. Hair cuts range from $30 to $40, depending on the stylist.

“We fix $8 haircuts,” Chase said.

Great Looks 4 Less is located at the Mercer Mall. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. For more information, or to make an appointment, call (609) 378-5360, or visit the salon’s Facebook page.
