Construction has begun on a new Route 33 development which will bring an Aldi Grocery Store and Panera Bread to Hamilton Square.
Last month, crews began tearing down the old Hamilton Chrysler building, which has been vacant since 2009 when the dealership closed. An Aldi Grocery Store, drive-thru Panera Bread and more than 7,945 square-feet for additional retail or service space will be built in its place.
The development—located at 1240 Route 33—was approved by the township’s planning board over the summer and will sit across the street from the Hamilton Plaza and ShopRite of Hamilton Square.
The construction is another phase of retail development at the Route 33 and Whitehorse-Hamilton Square Road intersection. A Super Wawa opened last October at the former Patterson Chevrolet site, and construction is underway on an Auto Zone next door.
“Our administration has worked diligently to attract interest and encourage the revitalization of both former car dealerships,” Mayor Kelly Yaede said in a statement. “We are pleased that this project will help reinvigorate the former Chrysler dealership and complement the ongoing redevelopment of the former Patterson Chevrolet site.”
