United Way of Greater Mercer County (UWGMC) works to ensure families have the resources they need to get ahead. For more than a decade, we have delivered a crucial service for individuals and families struggling to make ends meet – free tax preparation services also known as the Volunteers Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Starting the first week in February 2024, UWGMC will offer free tax preparation services to households with income of $65,000 or less in multiple locations through Mercer County including the Salvation Army in Trenton, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Mercer County, Hamilton Public Library and the UWGMC office. Please visit www.uwgmc.org/freetaxprogram in January for more details.
Free tax preparation services allows families to save on filing fees, claim eligible tax credits and get connected to resources and other necessities to fill gaps in a family budget. The impact of UWGMC’s work includes more struggling families keeping more of their hard-earned dollars, opportunity to enroll in food, utility assistance and various health insurance programs. Last year, United Way of Greater Mercer County assisted nearly 1,700 individuals and families with VITA.
