The Silva Gallery of Art at The Pennington School is hosting “Eye-Hand Coordination: Works by James Fiorentino” through Dec. 10.

In this exhibition, the Silva Gallery has curated Fiorentino’s sports and nature work into a singular show for the first time, so that visitors can understand how his technique can effectively portray various subjects and topics.

A reception, open to the public, will be held on Friday, Nov. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. with artist remarks at 7 p.m.

Fiorentino (b. 1977) is an American artist who specializes in watercolor and the artistic convergence of sports and nature. He resides in Hunterdon County.

His works of art have been internationally recognized since an early age; at 15, Fiorentino became the youngest artist ever to be featured in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum for his likeness of Reggie Jackson.

In 1998, Fiorentino became the youngest artist to be inducted into the New York Society of Illustrators, where he is alongside such artists as Norman Rockwell and Andrew Wyeth.

A graduate of Drew University, Fiorentino was the starting shortstop for all four years of his college career. He has painted many legendary ball players and other athletes of the past, as well as the stars of today, including Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Cal Ripken Jr., Arnold Palmer, Muhammad Ali, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and Tiger Woods.

Beyond the sporting world, Fiorentino has painted and illustrated some of the most recognized faces in the world using his self-taught watercolor expression—from presidents to Nobel Peace Prize winners, CEOs, and political icons. Fiorentino is also a member of the Salmagundi Club in New York City’s Greenwich Village; the Salmagundi Club is one of the oldest art organizations in the United States.

His works—which include landscapes, portraits, seascapes, still lifes, and animals—have been showcased in museums, galleries, and private collections across the globe, and his career has been featured on national television and in the pages of magazines, books, newspapers, and trading cards. He is the recipient of numerous awards, and his work has been used by national brands, including trading cards for Topps, Upper Deck, and Kellogg’s. Fiorentino is a member of the New Jersey Watercolor Society, Garden State Watercolor Society, American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Society of Animal Artists, and Artists for Conservation. He also serves as a trustee of The Raptor Trust in Millington, NJ, and the D&R Greenway Land Trust in Princeton, NJ.

The Silva Gallery of Art is located on Pennington’s campus at 112 West Delaware Avenue in Pennington, New Jersey. For further information, please call the Silva Gallery of Art at 609–737–4133 or email silvagallery@pennington.org.
