Kura Sushi USA, Inc., a company known for its technology-integrated revolving sushi bar concept, is set to open its sixth New Jersey location in Lawrence Township.

The new restaurant will be situated in the former Hooters space within the Mercer Mall. Company officials have said they anticipate opening in the fourth quarter of this year.

The upcoming establishment will expand Kura Sushi’s presence in the state. The company operates nearly 70 locations across 19 states and Washington, D.C., making it the country’s largest revolving sushi bar chain.

Kura Sushi’s dining experience features a dual-layer conveyor system, delivering both continuously revolving dishes and made-to-order items via an Express Belt.

The revolving sushi bar incorporates the “Mr. Fresh” food safety dome, a plate-lid system designed to maintain freshness and limit airborne exposure, along with tracking technology. Another notable feature is the “Bikkura Pon” prize system, a gamified element that counts plates for billing accuracy and rewards diners for every 15 plates.

Kura Sushi operates on a pay-by-the-plate system rather than a buffet. Each sushi plate from the revolving bar has a set price, while other offerings such as udon, ramen, side dishes, and desserts are priced individually. All sushi is prepared without wasabi. While there isn’t a dedicated kids’ menu, options like Karaage (Fried) Chicken and noodle soups are available.

The restaurant offers both pickup and delivery services for its entire menu, including alcoholic beverages where legally permissible. Orders can be placed in advance through the Kura Sushi App or via order.kurasushi.com.

Customers with food allergies or sensitivities are advised to contact the restaurant after placing a to-go order for potential accommodations. However, it’s important to note that Kura Sushi restaurants are not allergen or gluten-free environments, and cross-contact with allergens may occur due to shared equipment.

Nutritional information for all regular menu items is accessible on the Kura Sushi website. The company does not currently offer catering services.

Over its 15 years in the U.S. market, Kura Sushi has implemented various technological advancements. These include the introduction of drink delivery robots in 2022, an AI-integrated waitlist system in 2023, and an upgraded Kura Sushi Rewards app in 2023.

In 2024, the company partnered with DoorDash for delivery services and began implementing a QR-scan plate system to enhance operational efficiency through real-time consumption analytics.

For those interested in updates on the Lawrenceville opening and promotional offers, Kura Sushi is offering a $10 coupon for signing up for their e-newsletter via their website. https://kurasushi.com/locations/lawrenceville-nj
