Sylvette de Aldrey Krause, originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Jessie Krause, from Princeton — mother/daughter, respectively — are showing their paintings together at Tipple & Rose. A reception takes place Thursday, April 17, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., concurrently with Princeton University’s Art Walk.

Sylvette began showing her work here in Princeton in the mid-1960s with shows at the Nassau Club, Gallery 100, the Present Day Club and other venues around the country. She studied painting at the Whitney School of Art and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid, Spain. Sylvette’s artwork was influenced by her Spanish heritage, using oils and pastels to create textures, strong lines and rich earthen colors.

Jessie studied art at Smith College and NYU. She used her painting skills to forge a career in scenic painting and design in New York City, eventually moving to Bucks County, where she opened Netherfield Gallery, featuring her own paintings and those of other artists, including her mother. Today Jessie has a studio at Princeton Makes in the Princeton Shopping Center. Her greeting cards sell throughout the East Coast, and can be found at Tipple & Rose, Labyrinth Books, and Princeton Makes.

Sylvette & Jessie Krause, Tipple & Rose, 210 Nassau Street, Princeton. Thursday April 17, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The Art Walk starts at 5:30 p.m. and includes live music, food, and art at Art@Bainbridge, the Arts Council of Princeton, Princeton Public Library, and Small World Coffee’s Witherspoon Street cafe.
