For the second consecutive year, Mayor Dave Fried will join the Robbinsville community and “Pay it Forward” as part of his 2016 State of the Township Address April 13, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Mercer County Boathouse.
In conjunction with the MIDJersey Chamber of Commerce, Robbinsville Township is extremely proud to use proceeds from the evening to benefit one of Robbinsville’s charities, Quilts for Comfort.
Established in December 2000 by a blood cancer survivor, Robbinsville’s own Susan Tonry, Quilts for Comfort is 100 percent volunteer-based and has delivered over 10,000 quilts to sick and/or recovering patients. The organization promotes awareness of Leukemia, the need for blood and bone marrow donors, and currently supports many patients at area hospitals. Tonry and her team of volunteers produce the quilts either at her home, or at the Robbinsville Branch of the Mercer County Library System.
With the anticipated help of generous sponsors and supporters, Robbinsville Township is in the process of renovating the historic Robbins House at Hillcrest Farm, which will be used as a meeting place for Tonry and her team in order to produce the works of art that provide comfort to so many. The updated Robbins House also will continue serve other township programs, including the Department of Recreation and other non-profit organizations.
Last year’s sold-out “Pay it Forward” event to benefit the Shepherd family of Robbinsville raised more than $40,000.
In addition to recognizing and encouraging others to help the less fortunate, Fried also plans to discuss municipal taxes and the 2016 budget. Fried introduced a $22.3-million budget to township council March 10 that includes the second proposed municipal tax cut in three years. The tax rate in 2016 is anticipated to be 52.6 cents per $100 of assessed value, which is 1.6 cents less than in 2012 (54.2 cents).
Other topics expected to be covered by the mayor during the April 13 event include some prospects for Town Center South, along with updates on the Foxmoor Shopping Center redevelopment, the new township municipal building, affordable housing, the Amazon traffic situation and more.
