The Princeton University Concert Jazz Ensemble, led by Dr. Anthony D.J. Branker, will perform with the Alison Crockett Trio featuring bassist Tarus Mateen and drummer Jabari Exum on Saturday, Nov. 22.
Vocalist and pianist Alison Crockett has been heard on seminal recordings by King Britt, Blue Six, Us3, Landslide, John Wicks, Mathematics, among others. Her unique sound, a blend of jazz, gospel and blues, is inspired by artists such as Lizz Wright, Rachelle Farrelle, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Donna Summer, Diana Ross and Sarah Vaughn.
The program will include music from Ms. Crockett’s one-woman show Is This It? My American Dream, which focuses on the mounting challenges facing the United States as we stagger into the new millennium.
Alison honed her vocal skills at Temple University in Philadelphia before earning her master’s degree at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York City. She has been praised for her “throaty, diva-styled vocals” by Billboard Magazine.
