Jack Borden, of Stockton, and his friend and classmate George Wright, of Lawrenceville, organized Princeton Academy’s first “Donut Dodgeball” on Dec. 10 to benefit The Matthew Renk Foundation, a non-profit that generates awareness of childhood brain cancer and provides support for families facing this difficulty.
Students participated by purchasing donuts during lunch and/or paying the $5 fee to enter into a dodgeball tournament. The event organizers sold more than 800 doughnuts and got 75 participants to sign up for the tournament, raising $950. That figure was matched by a benefactor, resulting in a total of $1,900.
“It feels good because we know it’s going toward a good cause,” said Mr. Wright. “It could change someone’s life for the better.”
Mr. Borden explained that his family was friends with the Renks. When Matthew Renk died from brain cancer at 15, his parents formed the Foundation in his honor. The Bordens were inspired to hold a fundraiser and support their friends’ cause.
