Housing Initiatives of Princeton (HIP), which provides transitional housing and eviction prevention services in Central New Jersey, has added three Princeton residents to its 15-member board.

Suki Wasserman is a corporate market research professional, who has worked with Procter & Gamble, Bristol Myers, and Johnson & Johnson. In the past decade, she has brought those skills and talents to Princeton-area nonprofits. As community engagement coordinator for HomeFront, Wasserman led HomeFront’s legacy giving. Two years ago, Wasserman began grant writing for HIP and last year joined HIP’s development committee responsible for securing large grants and sponsorships.

Marisabel Fernandez, a native of Puerto Rico, with an educational background in neurophysiology and healthcare, has focused her community work on fund-raising for the YMCA, HomeFront, and Fund 101. She also supports the community through Princeton Public Schools, as an active parent and advocate for high quality education and programming that supports and celebrates the Hispanic/Latinx heritage.

Luis Estrada, a native of Guatemala, is a 2021 Rutgers University graduate, currently working at Merrill Lynch as a financial services advisory client solutions specialist. With an extensive community service record when a student at Princeton High School and then at Rutgers, Estrada is committed to the success of HIP’s mission because his own family was once the beneficiary of HIP services.

Share My Meals, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting food insecurity and reducing food waste, has announced Karen Lemon as its new board chair. She succeeds Share My Meals founder Isabelle Lambotte, who will continue as a member of the board.

Lemon joined Share My Meals in 2020 as one of its first volunteers and quickly became an integral part of its leadership team, joining the board later that year. As board chair, she will oversee Share My Meals’ efforts to recover twice as many meals across New Jersey this year and pilot meal recovery initiatives in additional locations, solidifying the organization’s role as a leader in the fight against food insecurity.

In addition to her work with Share My Meals, Lemon is one of the founders of the Meal Recovery Coalition (MRC), an alliance launched by Share My Meals to bring together corporations, institutions, nonprofits, and government entities. The MRC’s mission is to make meal recovery the norm in New Jersey, amplifying the collective impact of reducing food waste and providing nutritious meals to those in need. “Karen’s leadership, strategic vision, and unwavering dedication have been invaluable to Share My Meals and the formation of the MRC,” said Hélène Lanctuit, CEO of Share My Meals. “As board chair, her expertise and passion will guide us as we expand our reach and impact in New Jersey and beyond.”

Lemon has dedicated her career to leadership roles in training, customer service, operations, and sales. She retired from a career at AT&T in 2020, where she led the System Integrator organization, driving business solutions for multinational clients while championing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Lemon also serves on the board of Junior Achievement of New Jersey and is an adjunct professor at Rider University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, she now lives in Princeton.

“This organization is transforming lives by addressing two critical issues, food insecurity and food waste,” Lemon said. “I look forward to working with our incredible team, partners, and supporters to create a lasting impact for our communities.” Under Karen’s leadership, Share My Meals continues to build on its vision of fostering collaboration and innovation to ensure that no meal goes to waste, and no family goes hungry. Karen succeeds Isabelle Lambotte, the founder of Share My Meals, who will remain actively involved as a member of the board.
