West Windsor will host its 21st annual Bike Fest on Sept. 7, offering guided rides ranging from 1.5 to 40 miles through historic neighborhoods and local landmarks.
The event, organized by West Windsor Recreation and Parks, begins at West Windsor Community Park pavilion at the end of Bernt Midland Boulevard. Registration opens for rides designed for all ages and skill levels.
Multiple route options will take cyclists through historic areas including Grovers Mill, Dutch Neck and Edinburg, with some longer rides extending into Robbinsville and Plainsboro.
The event started in 2005 and has become an annual tradition combining exercise, community engagement and local history education.
Tours will be led by volunteers from the Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance and members of the Princeton Freewheelers.
The West Windsor History Museum will serve as a rest stop for most riders, where participants can pick up refreshments and explore the mid-1800s schoolhouse. The entire museum complex, dating to the mid-1700s, will be open from 1-4 p.m.
Road Maestro bicycle mechanics will provide last-minute bike maintenance at the event. Participants will receive lunch featuring hoagies from Aljon’s and Indian food from Tript Foods.
The shortest route highlights the area’s indigenous Lenape settlers and Vanhiseville, a mid-1800s crossroads where original buildings still stand at Hendrickson Drive and North Mill Road. Longer rides explore the Trolley Line Trail, named for an early-1900s trolley line that connected much of New Jersey.
