Mercer County is set to sponsor a course on personal emergency preparedness starting in February.
Community Emergency Response Team training is designed to teach people how to take care of themselves and their families and assist neighbors in a large-scale disaster or emergency.
The course begins Feb. 12 and consists of nine Wednesday evenings of classroom instruction before finishing with a Saturday practical exercise.
Upon completion of the training, students will receive a CERT bag with basic safety equipment. Students will also have the opportunity to join their municipal-based CERT program.
Tuition is provided through the Mercer County Homeland Security Grant.
The course will be offered through Mercer County Community College and listed in its Continuing Studies Noncredit Course catalog. There is a $5 administrative fee; tuition is free.
