Trenton resident Hope Larkin is set to represent Schafer School of Gymnastics in the upcoming Special Olympics Summer Games.

For the last three years, the Special Olympics of N.J. has hosted events at the Lawrence-based gym. This is the first year Schafer’s will have an athlete representing their gym.

Larkin began training at Schafer School of Gymnastics, where co-owner Shannon Schafer has been developing a program for special needs athletes, at five years old.

Larkin is set to participate in the SONJ sectional meet on May 4 and the Summer Games from May 30 to June 1 at Schafer School of Gymnastics.

Schafer is not only coaching Hope, but she is also one of the coaches for the National Gymnastics Team for SONJ, which is being hosted in N.J. for the first time June 14 to 21.
