Mercer County has deemed it necessary to close the Alexander Street Bridge over Stony Brook on a 24/7 basis to all traffic until emergency repairs are completed. Deteriorating structural conditions made the closure necessary.

A detour will be posted directing motorists to use U.S. Route 1, Washington Road and Faculty Road. Alexander Road will be open to Turning Basin Park from the east and up to West Drive from the west. The bridge will also be open to pedestrian traffic.

Emergency repairs commenced on Tuesday, April 9. It is anticipated that the work will be completed within 10 working days, weather permitting.

Once the repairs are complete, the bridge will be reopened to vehicular traffic but will be weight restricted to 20 tons as it is currently.

Lawrence Township Police have told commuters to expect heavy rush hour delays on U.S. 1, Princeton Pike, and U.S. 206 until April 19.
