Sign Invasion Signals Campaign Season

It’s campaign time, and signs for local candidates for West Windsor Township Council have begun to appear, sometimes without regard to local regulations for their placement.

The West Windsor ordinance that covers temporary signs is found in Chapter 200, Section 152, of the Code Book, linked from the Township website’s homepage, www.westwindsornj.org. It states, in part, “Temporary signs shall be located on a lot so that they are not in the public right-of-way … There shall be no placement of such signs between public roads and sidewalks or within six feet of a public road where no sidewalk exists.”

Some signs are currently posted on property easements, on the grass between the streets and the sidewalks, as well as on public rights-of-way. While this may not seem like a big deal, people running for local public office ought to be aware of and follow local ordinances.

I hope that the signs will be moved promptly.

I look forward to learning the candidates’ positions on issues. I urge all registered voters to vote on November 3. The deadline for registering to vote is October 13, and Vote-by-Mail applications must be received at the county clerk’s office by October 27. More information is available at the State of New Jersey website, www.nj.gov/state/elections.
