In his letter in the December 20 issue of this paper, Pat Banerjee bemoans the last election’s low turnout of voters, and their choice to re-elect Mayor Hsueh, who Banerjee regards as having fooled us. In all the regret at our h aving voted to re-elect the mayor, Banerjee fails to recommend which of the two other candidates on the ballot one should have voted for instead. Were we supposed to pick one at random?

The fact is that — while stopping short of approval at how Mayor Hseuh does his job — to some of us Hsueh was the best (or least undesirable) candidate on the ballot.

Perhaps Banerjee should focus less on the subset of the town’s adult population that goes to the polls to vote for the office, and more on the subset that goes to the election board to register to run for the office. Even better, Banerjee could run for mayor himself.
