Mehno got it wrong

The following was sent in response to Veronica Mehno’s commentary sent to the News on Sept. 19, 2016:

We are troubled by the inaccuracies in the letter.

As parents, we absolutely care about the quality of the education in our district. (Scott’s children are in the district now in 5th grade and 8th grade. While Louisa’s kids graduated recently, she is actively involved through Girl Scouts with many kids and families in the district). We work diligently and closely with the administration to ensure that we provide quality education to all the children. Most of these conversations occur away from the board meetings, at committee meetings and one-on-one conversations. By working with the administration collaboratively, we develop sensible policies and practices for all the district’s students.

The district’s 1:1 Chromebook initiative begins in 5th grade. There are no plans to begin that earlier.

The best way to improve our schools is to offer constructive suggestions for improvement. We encourage members of the community to provide feedback. Let’s make sure the feedback is productive and helps our schools improve.
