The Lawrence Hopewell Trail (LHT) honored U.S. Rep. Rush Holt of New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District with the second annual Trailblazer Award at an event held on Oct. 29 at the D&R Greenway’s Johnson Education Center.

The award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated commitment to the development and viability of the LHT, a 22-mile recreational trail and transportation corridor through Lawrence and Hopewell Townships. The LHT supports an active, livable, and sustainable community with alternative forms of transportation to reduce reliance on automobiles. It also promotes health and fitness, recreation, and outdoor education.

Congressman Rush Holt was instrumental in securing $266,760 in federal funds to support the completion of the Pennington Connection to the trail.

“The founders of the Lawrence Hopewell Trail have worked hard for years to plan, fund, and construct this network of recreational trails open to all. The Borough of Pennington has made a real contribution to the livability of the region by linking to the LHT loop. I am pleased to have been able to help by securing federal funds to support the completion the Pennington,” said Congressman Holt.
