A Plainsboro woman was found dead in her Hunters Glen apartment, and authorities have determined the death to be a homicide.
The body of Carolyn Byington, 26, was discovered by police at 6 p.m. on Monday night, according a statement by to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey and Plainsboro Police Chief Fred Travener.
Officers were dispatched to Byington’s apartment following a request by her coworkers to conduct a wellness check. They had become worried because she never returned that day from lunch break.
The manner of her death was ruled to be a homicide later that evening after an autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Authorities did not say how Byington was killed, and they have released no further details about the case or the investigation.
ABC New York Eyewitness News has reported that neighbors said they heard faint screams coming from the apartment on Monday afternoon, along with what sounded like furniture moving. They said they didn’t see anyone leave.
Byington’s profile on LinkedIn lists her as a senior associate in project management at Engine, a marketing and advertising company located in Carnegie Center in West Windsor.
She was a graduate of Ridge High School in Basking Ridge and earned a bachelor’s degree in international affairs/anthropology and sociology (double major) from Lafayette College. She also studied in Japan.
Engine released the following statement on Wednesday: “Engine is in mourning over this shocking, senseless tragedy. Carolyn was deeply cared about by her colleagues. We extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to her family and friends.”
