Princeton Makes, a Princeton-based artist cooperative, and Ragged Sky Press, a local publisher focused on poetry, hosts a Second Sunday Poetry Reading on Sunday, February 9, at 4 p.m. The readings take place at the Princeton Makes store in the Princeton Shopping Center.

The February reading features John J. Trause and Malia Chung. Their readings will be followed by an open mic available to up to 10 audience members who would like to read their original poetry.

John J. Trause is the director of Oradell Public Library and the author of six books of poetry and one of parody, “Latter-Day Litany,” that was staged Off Broadway. His translations, poetry, prose, scholarship, and visual work appear internationally in many journals and anthologies, and Marymark Press has published his visual poetry and art as broadsides and sheets. He is a founder of the William Carlos Williams Poetry Cooperative (The Red Wheelbarrow) in Rutherford, New Jersey, and the former host and curator of its monthly reading series.

A sample of his work, published in 2023 in “A Shape Produced by a Curve,” follows:

Malia Chung of Boston, Massachusetts, is a senior at Princeton University, where she is majoring in English and minoring in creative writing. As the daughter of two English teachers, Chung believes that writing and storytelling have shaped her educational experience to date. For her senior thesis, she is creating a collection of poems that write into history her family’s own story, one centered around the coming together of her Korean-Lithuanian background and the lessons of love she has derived from those who came before her. Two samples follow.

Princeton Makes is a cooperative comprising local artists who work across a range of artistic genres, including painting, drawing, stained glass, sculpture, textiles, and jewelry. Customers can support local artists by shopping for a wide variety of art, including large paintings, prints, custom-made greeting cards, stained glass lamps and window hangings, jewelry in a variety of designs and patterns, and more.

Ragged Sky is a small, highly selective cooperative press. We work with our authors closely. Authors retain copyright and we use our experience and professional resources to support the author’s work through the editing, production, and design process. Ragged Sky Press has historically focused on mature voices, overlooked poets, and women’s perspectives.
