Mentors from Big Brothers Big Sisters who volunteer at Lawrenceville Elementary School were applauded for sharing their time during lunch periods mentoring children in first through third grade.

This school-based volunteer mentoring program began at LES in January of 2010 with mentors from Big Brothers Big Sisters visiting with their “little” or matched child weekly during lunch and recess.

Mentors come to LES from The College of New Jersey and Rider University.

In good weather, the mentoring teams are out on the playground engaged in soccer, hopscotch, or other active games, and during inclement weather they stay inside making crafts, playing checkers or having their nails polished.

At the celebration, the children presented their mentors with original artwork, featuring their mentor’s likeness.
